CLERK'S NOTIFICATION TO JURORS
As of January 1, 1998, the Florida Department of Highway Safety furnishes the list of prospective jurors to the Clerk’s office monthly. This list is comprised of all drivers' license and Florida ID’s issued to parties 18 or older who are residents of Sumter County, Florida. Neither the Clerk of Courts nor the Supervisor of Elections has any control over the names or addresses on this list. Please be sure the Sumter County DMV has your correct address on record
IMPORTANT JUROR INSTRUCTIONS ~ PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
1) REQUESTS TO BE EXCUSED FROM SERVICE MUST BE DONE IN WRITING AND SUBMITTED TO THE CLERK’S OFFICE FOR PROCESSING BY ONE OF TWO OPTIONS
- a. Complete the downloadable form, “REQUEST TO BE EXCUSED FROM JURY SERVICE”

2) THIS FORM MUST BE RETURNED TO THE CLERK’S OFFICE BY ONE OF THE FOLLOWING

3) OPTIONS #1-8 ARE AUTOMATIC EXCUSALS
- a. If you qualify for one of these options you are automatically excused AFTER you’ve submitted your request to the Clerk’s office. You will NOT be notified
4) OPTION #9 REQUIRES THE JUDGE’S APPROVAL
- a. Select this option ONLY if you do NOT qualify for one of first eight options
- b. Using your own discretion, you may attach additional documentation for the Judge that supports your request to be excused, but is not required by the Clerk
5) BRING YOUR JURY SUMMONS WITH YOU THE DAY YOU ARE SCHEDULED TO REPORT
- a. Complete the Employer Verification with contact information prior to your arrival
- b. Check ? YES if you are employed & your employer is paying you for being here
- c. Check ? NO If you are unemployed or retired
6) ALWAYS VERIFY YOUR SERVICES ARE STILL NEEDED PRIOR TO REPORTING:
- a. The weekend before you are scheduled to report, call the AFTER HOURS JURY RECORDING (352) 569-6990, to verify if your services are still needed. This will provide you with the most UP-TO-DATE information and instructions for reporting.
NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES INCLUDING CELL PHONES, LAPTOPS OR OTHER ELECTRONIC MEDIA DEVICES ARE ALLOWED IN THE COURTHOUSE
NO OPEN FOOD OR BEVERAGE CAN BE BROUGHT INTO THE COURTHOUSE, THOUGH YOU MAY BRING SEALED SNACKS & DRINKS THAT HAVE NOT BEEN OPENED
